A mother and daughter share a peculiar and a deep-rooted bond of eternal connection. The very first secure feeling a child gets is the warmth of her mother. The child feels the most secured with her mother. But as the child grows there starts building a gap, refraining the child from sharing up the things with her mother. People call it a generation gap but I call it a communication gap. Sometimes the mothers too feel hesitant talking about certain important things to their daughters, awareness about sexual assault is one of those. Understanding the fact that anyone at any age can be a victim of sexual assault, the mothers should empower their daughters about the same.
The mothers can empower their daughters in two different ways:
• First is empowerment with sufficient knowledge and making them aware of what to be done next in case any such incidence happens so that the girls can be watchful and alert knowing what to do in such situations.
• Second is empowering their victim daughters by supporting them and helping them regain their confidence by following various steps such as:
Comforting their daughters and making them share the incidence if they want to, which will eventually unburden the victims mind.
Assuring their daughters that it is not their fault and sometimes terrible things do happen, but that is not end of their lives.
Providing their victim daughters with a comfortable and healing environment.
All these measures can help in empowering the girls and help them avoiding any future sexual assaults or recovering from the past ones. It is no denying the fact that surviving isn’t easy but neither is parenting. But mothers should always remember that they can always do wonders for their daughters, after all they run this whole world.
