Women’s History Month takes place each March, created in honour of the importance of women’s contributions to society throughout history, most notably in the fields of politics, medicine, the arts and technology.
In particular, March 8th is International Women’s Day, when these contributions and accomplishments are highlighted as inspiration and encouragement for women all over the world. To celebrate, let’s take a look at just a few short examples of outstanding achievements by women.
It was only in 1920 that women in the United States won the right to vote. Today, in 2016, we have Hillary Clinton – a woman running for president.
Did you ever know that the world’s first computer-programmer was a woman? Ada Lovelace is known for writing the instructions to the first ever computer program in the 1840s.
According to the National Museum of Women in the Arts, over 51% of today’s visual artists are women!
By learning about the vast history of women during Women’s History Month, women can achieve a sense of empowerment, knowing that equality, power and success are possible.
