Coronavirus and the effects on Sexual Assault Prevention at Colleges by Rimpi Blogger

The novel Corona virus has hit the whole world vigorously. The government has been altering various policies for maintaining sanity and safety of the public, while some of the decisions are accepted by public, others are being opposed.

One such decision facing a lot of criticism is opening of colleges. It is definitely going to affect sexual assault cases on the campus. Colleges have proved to be prone to sexual assaults because the perpetrators set their target on the grounds of friendship and fellowship and the victims are of course more relaxed and not much cautious about any such horrendous acts. Being stuck at home for a long time because of COVID 19, the perpetrators might also be desperate to execute their horrific plans.

As the government is enforcing new policies similar to CDC guidelines to keep students safe, ideally new policies should be enforced to prevent sexual assault on campus. But it is hard to believe if this is going to happen any time sooner. The main reason may be that sexual assaults are neither much revealed nor taken gravely. Despite of so much awareness, Sexual assaults are still concealed and not dealt solemnly. But firm steps needs to be taken to enforce strict policies for prevention of Sexual Assault on campus.
