The New Year can lead to feelings of happiness, and hope of a better year than before. Resolutions include getting back to a mental state of peace and serenity, back to healthier eating habits and building physical strength.
Yet, sometimes we need to find a way to get back to a sense of self before the trauma. A time before our bodies were the crime scene of an attack.
A time before our broken heart and broken trust of a friend, lover, boyfriend, or peer who became an abuser.
It is the time we start to renew our selves from the past, the shackles of the previous pain. It is necessary to start to look internally to realize the most important truth ‘YOU MATTER, YOU ARE WORTHY”.
Much of our existence as victims and even survivors are filled with speaking our truths and getting others to believe the validity of our stories.
We need to find a way to start inside and begin the work of being worthy of respect, kindness, power, and ultimately to be humane.
