Take Back the Power by blogger Rimpi

Any rising crime has some underlying causes that need to be fixed in order to put the stop on it.

In case of sexual assault many such contributing factors are:

  • The victim’s fear of coming forward thinking about the society’s reaction.
  • The lack of awareness and support in the society regarding sexual assault.
  • In some cases the power\fame possessed by the accused

In the later, where the accused has power or fame, the victim should not fear, rather they should come forward with a loud and fierce voice, strong enough to crumble the perpetrator’s power and rupture the fame bubble.

Various ways the victim can make this happen –

  • Reaching out to media.

Media has the power to make and break anyone’s image. It can help exposing the accused hence serving justice to the survivor. The very profound saying “The pen is mightier than sword” suits here very well. Now a day’s Media is not just limited to TV and newspaper. Social media platform, such as Twitter, Instagram provides an awesome and powerful environment to communicate with the whole world and share your experiences. Media these days can affect adversely even to the most powerful people.

  • Trust the Judicial System.

Every country is made powerful by the LAW they carry as it does not discriminate. And hence the powerful and common people are served equally.

  • Getting in touch with Support Groups.

There are many such NGO’s and support group that fights against sexual assault which can provide an encouraging and healing environment to the survivors. These groups have wide network and there will definitely be other people who might have faced the same, they can guide and help you fight this battle.

Dealing with sexual assault is not easy but when the accused is someone with power, it makes it even more difficult. When the survivors will start speaking and fighting against the perpetrators without fear they can definitely put a stop to such horrendous acts.
